Description: HIM analytical tools can provide targeted education to improve coding quality, identify specific groupings of MS-DRG's to pinpoint lost revenue, and solidify future revenue through training and process improvement. In addition, other analytical HIM solutions such as Capture Rate Analytics (CC/MCC), telehealth reimbursement evaluation and staff productivity are vital to program success. Automated and targeted coding quality reviews are a valuable tool for educating both physicians and coders in an effort to improve coding quality, compliance and reimbursement. In this session, we will discuss how finding the right analytical tools can be used to ensure optimal coding quality and reduce the potential of lost reimbursement, resulting in improved cash flow.

Speaker: With thirty (30) years of healthcare experience, April Smith has six (6) years with JTS as an inpatient and outpatient coder and auditor, including enhancing revenue and compliance using nCREAS™ analytics to improve client outcomes. She is a member of AHIMA, an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer and is an AHIMA Credentialed Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).  

Previously, April was the Lead Coder at a national HIM professional services firm where she maintained and reported staff productivity, directed coding staff to enhance both accuracy and production goals. 

April has extensive experience with DRG/grouper and encoder, having worked with Cerner, Meditech, Thrive hospital information systems, 3M, Quadramed (Clintegrity), Trucode, Thrive Encoder, McKesson and Eclipsys electronic medical record (EMR) in large health teaching networks, Level 1 trauma facilities, cancer and children’s hospitals, local community hospitals, behavioral health and critical access hospitals.
