Description: Speakers will present information on the new interoperability reporting requirement for CMS for hospitals and physicians. This new HIE measure requires a provider or hospital to check sources outside their EHR for clinical information when treating a new patient or newly admitted patient. Attendees of this session will learn how this measure is documented and calculated for CMS or Medicaid reporting, what sources of information are available, how this information can be saved within the EHR and how these requirements apply to real-life applications.

Speaker:  Cathy Costello, JD, CPHIMS is an attorney specializing in medical-legal work who has been involved with the Ohio Health Information Partnership since its inception in 2009. In her role as head of The Partnership's Regional Extension Center, Cathy was responsible for managing the network of regions that provided services to 6000 primary care providers and supported their Meaningful Use programs. Through her ongoing work as Director of CliniSyncPLUS, Cathy continues to work with physician groups, hospital systems, and Critical Access Hospitals to assist them in moving ahead with new CMS and Medicaid quality initiatives. Cathy is focusing on coordination of care issues between primary care and behavioral health and drug and alcohol treatment providers.

Speaker:  Scott Mash, MSLIT, CPHIMS, FHIMSS joined the Ohio Health Information Partnership in April 2014, coming aboard as the Operations Manager – Physician and Regional Extension Center Services. Today, he is the Director of Consulting Services and HIE Outreach. His expertise allows him to coordinate the work of our Community Outreach Managers and health information exchange with the services we offer to physicians.  Scott also serves as a senior consultant for MIPS, Promoting Interoperability (formerly Meaningful Use), quality reporting, the adoption and optimization of electronic health records and other related special projects.
