Description: Follow the journey of an HIM-led project to build an enterprise master patient index (MPI) with multiple MPI integrations. This session will provide a roadmap to a single enterprise identifier. Key strategies, decision points and lessons learned.

Webinar Date: This was presented as part of OHIMA's 2020 Virtual Conference - March 16, 2020
Duration:
1 hour

This session’s presenters are members of the HIM leadership team at ProMedica: Sandy Lewallen and Andrea Hoff.  Headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, ProMedica is one of the top 15 largest healthcare systems in the US, with services provided across 28 states.  ProMedica began implementation of the Epic electronic health record in 2014, necessitating the development of an Enterprise Master Patient Index (eMPI) strategy to achieve “One Patient, One Record, One Bill.”  To date, the HIM team has integrated eight disparate MPI’s into a single enterprise MPI for 2.6 million patients, and maintain a duplicate patient rate of less than 1%.   They will be sharing their journey and lessons learned.

Speaker:  Sandy Lewallen, MBA, RHIA, CHPS is currently the Administrative Director of HIM for ProMedica.  In her role, Sandy is responsible for HIM services, including operations, systems and revenue cycle, for ProMedica’s Provider, Acute and Ambulatory division.  Sandy has more than 40 years of experience in healthcare, and prior to joining ProMedica in 2000, she was associated with Genesis Healthcare System, Riverside Hospital and the Veterans Administration in various leadership roles in HIM.  She has also served in multiple volunteer roles within national, state and location HIM associations, and recognized for her leadership contributions to HIM.

Speaker:  Andrea Hoff, RHIA is currently the Director of Health Information Management Systems for ProMedica.  In this role, Andrea oversees the day-to-day operations of the HIM Systems team including Enterprise Master Patient Index, Epic Chart Corrections, Transcription/Speech Recognition, and HIM System Administration responsibility for multiple HIM Applications.  She has 19 years of experience in Health Information Management and revenue cycle.
