Coding COVID-19 and Vaping

Description: Pandemic. Coronavirus (COVID-19). We have all seen the words and now we are seeing a new code to help us in our roles as coding professionals and data stewards.  To foster the accurate capture of COVID-19 cases, a new code been introduced mid-year.  Join OHIMA’s Coding Educator, Dianna Foley, as she addresses the new code use and the interim coding guidance that has been issued during this global emergency.

Vaping. Not only are coders dealing with the new COVID-19 coding guidance, but in the fall, supplemental guidance was provided to educate coders on coding for electronic cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury (EVALI).  The second part of this webinar will share this information.

Speaker:  Dianna Foley, RHIA, CHPS, CCS is OHIMA's Coding Education Coordinator. Dianna has been an HIM professional for 20 years. She progressed through the ranks of coder, department supervisor, and department director, to her current role as a coding consultant. She recently served as the program director for Medical Coding and HIT at Eastern Gateway Community College. Dianna earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati subsequently achieving her RHIA, CHPS, and CCS certifications. She is an AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer and has been part of OHIMA's Coding Roundtable Committee, facilitating roundtables held at the OHIMA annual meeting. She has been a presenter at regional HIM meetings and the OHIMA Annual Meeting.
