Compliance with 21st Century Cures Act: Data Interoperability, Information Blocking, Access, and Security

Description: The 21st Century Cures Act mandates interoperability and the secure exchange and access to health records. The goal of the Act is to ensure that access to health records and medical data are easily accessible and securely shared for the good of the patient. The patient is at the center of the Act putting patients in charge of their healthcare information. It mandates the use of apps for patient access and standardized APIs for the exchange of healthcare information. The lack of interoperability can impede this process resulting in compliance issues as well as increased costs to both patients and providers. The new information blocking/interoperability rules have set the standards that payers, providers, insurers, must now adhere to while at the same time ensuring that patient health data is still secure. However, many healthcare providers continue to struggle with how to meet these standards in complex healthcare systems with various clinical systems feeding the overall patient healthcare record. In this presentation you will hear from Verisma's leading experts in HIM, technology and compliance. They will share their expertise and firsthand knowledge regarding the interoperability mandate as well as provide real world examples of applications providers can utilize now to ensure compliance with information access while maintaining all the security still required by HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules. Learning Outcomes: 1. Understand what Information Blocking and Data Interoperability really means in your everyday operations. 2. Learn how to identify and address processes that are likely to constitute information blocking. 3. Learn what technology and vendor controls are available to enable secure patient access to their healthcare information.
