New Horizons - Building an Outpatient CDI Program for Risk Adjustment from Scratch

Description: Although inpatient CDI is the relative newcomer to HIM, ambulatory clinic setting revenue cycle operations are newer to most HIM departments in which they reside. Most HIM Directors are adding professional fee coding to their departments, but the organizational transformation opportunities may not readily present themselves in terms of CDI expansion into this world. Most large health systems have already entered into risk adjustment contracts. Has HIM been invited to the table as a stakeholder? How is an outpatient CDI program initiated? Which crucial relationships need to be built to facilitate success? How do you help physicians make the transition from fee-for-service reimbursement to HCC reimbursement and do so in an ethical manner? Finally, what are the best practices in performing these reviews, and who will your key players be? We will provide a systematic approach to building an outpatient CDI program from the ground up.
