Critical Care Coding

Description: This session will be an overview of critical care coding for adults, neonate, and pediatrics for physician services coders. The attendees will gain a better understanding of how to correctly bill critical care services. Objectives to be discussed include: define the requirements needed to bill critical care services, modifiers needed when billing critical care and procedures, and guidelines for shared split services with critical care. Case scenarios and examples will be provided to provide a greater understanding of each topic discussed.

Speaker: Mona M. Burke, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA, is the former program director for Health Information Management Technology at BGSU- Firelands and senior lecturer at Bowling Green State University now (semi) retired with over 30 years of experience in coding instruction. Awarded the Creative Scholar and Master Teacher awards from BGSU; Mona is a Fellow of the AHIMA. Currently employed as the profee auditor at Fisher-Titus Medical Center supporting several different roles in the facility including evaluating professional fee coding, provider education, billing staff education, telehealth education and also serves as the analyst for the professional fee computer-assisted coding application software. Currently serves as the faculty liaison to the V-Lab of AHIMA continuing in that role to design, edit and provide customer service related to software applications, manuscript development and coding education within that platform. Graduate of The Ohio State University's Health Information Administration program and completed her Master of Arts program at BGSU.
