Description: The Designated Record Set is a key term in the HIPAA Privacy Rule that governs the scope of patient rights to access, amendment, and an accounting of disclosures under HIPAA as well as sets forth the scope of a health care provider's obligations related to the information blocking prohibition of the 21st Century Cures Act.  This session will review the definition of Designated Record Set under HIPAA, compare the scope of HIPAA's Designated Record Set with the legal medical record, analyze the individual rights to access, amendment and an accounting of disclosures under HIPAA (and other federal and state laws), and navigate the prohibition on information blocking provisions contained in the 21st Century Cures Act.

Speaker: Lisa Pierce Reisz is a partner in the Vorys’ Columbus office and a member of the health care and litigation groups.  Her area of expertise is health information privacy, security, and technology.  She counsels clients on a wide variety of health information technology and privacy issues, including HIPAA, 42 C.F.R.
