Description: In this session, Dr. Childers will dissect the inner workings of a team and explain how to develop a functional, positive, and motivated work team. Participants will gain practice assessing team players and their role in leading a positive team.

Learning Objectives:

  • Assess the problems with teamwork
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses associated with the team leader
  • Evaluate the tools inherent to developing a positive team
  • Formulate a plan for mitigating the effects of a dysfunctional team player or leader
  • Construct a model for developing a team to its fullest potential

Speaker: Dr. Pamela Childers, EdD, RHIA, is the Clinical and Health Information Sciences Department Chair and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. Pam has been an HIM professional for forty-plus years, and she held various management positions before moving to academia in 2009. Dr. Childers's areas of expertise are leadership in HIM and teaching/learning for HIM students. Pam and her colleague co-authored "Management for the HIM Professional," and a new edition of this textbook will be published in 2025.
