Speaker:  Laurel VonDerHaar, BS, RN is a Documentation Excellence Data Analyst at Kettering Health Network, an 8-hospital healthcare system in southwestern Ohio. She has been a practicing RN for over 32 years with additional leadership roles as Director of Quality, Risk, and educational leader in CDI. As a gifted teacher with passion and humor, Laurel provides training and feedback to the CDI team, as well as supporting integration of documentation excellence principles to healthcare providers and service lines. Laurel is currently serving as a liaison during the implementation of a physician advisor program at Kettering Health Network, merging an eager and long-awaited partnership with CDI, Physician Advisors, and Inpatient Coding.

Speaker:  Ann Denniston, BSN, RN is an RN with over 35 years’ experience, currently serving as a Documentation Excellence Data Analyst at Kettering Health Network. Ann has successfully integrated her clinical care background with Information Technology, having served as systems analyst in Epic EMR and currently supporting a CDI team of 25 nurses through daily analysis of 3M 360 Encompass. Ann works under a leadership team that is diverse and thinks outside the box. Keeping up with technology to advance the progress of CDI at Kettering Health Network is a passion of Ann’s as she enjoys the continual opportunity to learn new skills.  

Speaker:  Kathleen Murchland, RHIA, CDIP, CCDS serves as the manager of CDI, proudly known as Documentation Excellence, at Kettering Health Network. Kathleen began her career in HIM Inpatient Coding, then successfully campaigned her HIM skills to a job in Clinical Quality Outcomes, working with a team of nurses studying cardiac outcomes for ACC, STS Database, and Core Measures reporting. Her obsession with coding accuracy carried her back to HIM and the transition to ICD-10 preparation work. Soon after ICD-10 adoption, Kathleen paved the way for HIM success into CDI and accepted a position of Manager, leading a team of 25 nurses into a journey of advanced CDI.
